My ongoing 2023-2024 Sustained Investigation focuses on the idea of living out your childhood through your teenage years. I include vibrant colors that communicate a childhood-like color pallet that represents nostalgia.
Currently, my pieces include pictures and memories from my childhood as well as pictures of my mom.
I use my childhood memories and pictures to find concepts that relate to my young adulthood. For example, I included a drawing based on a photograph of me graduating from pre-k. This portrays the reflections of my teen years- as I am approaching graduation from high school. My Mom has been my biggest inspiration since I was young, but recently her presence and influence have become prominent in my artwork. My Mom has inspired me to create these pieces of her to not only remind me of my childhood and the care she provided me but also to appreciate more often her now as I grow older. I find it important to remember my childhood and appreciate her hard work for my siblings and me, and how her hard work has made me who I am today.
My hope for this investigation is to inspire others to remember their childhood self and live through them.
I believe that by remembering our childhood selves, we live our lives more thoroughly and happily, paying attention to the beautiful minute details.
